Zips Tie with Oakland on the Road

ROCHESTER, Mich.- The Akron women's soccer team (1-0-2) tied non-conference opponent Oakland, 1-1, on Thursday night at the OU Soccer Field.

The Zips were outshot 21-9 by the Golden Grizzlies and put up four shots on goal to Oakland's seven. Akron's offensive efforts were led by freshman Emma King (Akron, Ohio) who registered three shots and scoring the Zips' lone goal. King has scored a goal in back-to-back games, making this her second goal of the season. Sophomore Sarah Nguyen (Irwin, Pa.) had two shots, both being on target.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maxima Carlitz (Stolberg, Germany) got her first start of the season tallying six saves on 21 shots faced.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- At the 20th-minute, King put the Zips ahead 1-0 on an unassisted goal. This was King's second goal of the season.
- Akron threatened to add to its lead coming out of the break by firing off two shots within the first two minutes of the second half. Sophomore Katharina Bilz's (Huensteetn Wallbach, Germany) shot sailed wide right, while King's shot was blocked.
- Oakland's Alex Sabbagh tied the game in the 84th-minute.
