Â
Senior Bryant Shellenbarger (Mount Vernon, Ohio) led the Zips offense with a 4-for-7 performance (.571 BA) over the two games with three doubles, four RBI and a run scored. Junior Kaito Hara (Houston, Texas) went 2-for-5 with his first collegiate homerun and freshman Cameron Benson (Farmington Hills, Mich.) homered in game one.
Â
Shellenbarger opened the second game of the doubleheader with a bases loaded double to right centerfield, plating all three the baserunners to cut the Miami lead to 5-3. The RedHawks scored five runs in the top of the first on three hits, two of which left the yard.

The Zips tied the game 6-6 in the fourth inning, and RedHawks responded with a pair of runs in the fifth. Hara cut the deficit in half with a solo homerun to left field in the sixth inning, 8-7. The RedHawks responded with two runs in the seventh, pushing the lead to 10-7.
Â
Akron pulled within one run again in the seventh when senior Jerry Reinhart (Batavia, N.Y.) blasted a double to the right-centerfield gap to score Shellenbarger and Sprockett, whom both reached on fielder's choices. An inning later Akron tied the game when Hara crossed the plate on a sacrifice flyout by senior Tate Wargo (Benld, Ill.), 10-10. Miami scored in the top of the ninth, and Shellenbarger led-off the inning with a double for Akron, but the Zips did not plate the run.
Â
In game one, the RedHawks started the scoring, plating two runs in the second inning on a pair of base hits. Miami added to the lead with four runs in the third inning with back-to-back homeruns to right field, 6-0. The RedHawks led by as many as 14 runs before Akron crossed the plate when Benson lifted the first pitch of the at-bat over the right field fence for the Zips lone run.
