Zips Close out Home Schedule with Miami

AKRON, Ohio- The Akron Zips softball team (17-27, 12-11 MAC) will close out the home portion of the schedule this weekend as the Zips host Miami starting on Friday, April 29 at 3 p.m. The series will conclude on Saturday, April 30 for a doubleheader with the first game starting at 1 p.m.

Saturday's doubleheader will also serve as Akron's senior day where Akron will honor Morgan Cadmus (Tecumseh, Mich.) and Lexie Petrof (Ligonier, Pa.).

Akron is set to meet Miami for the 87th times, respectively, in program history, with the RedHawks leading the series, 46-40. In 2019, Miami swept a four-game series last season.Â

Akron stands 17-27 overall and 12-11 in league play after going 1-2 over the weekend against Bowling Green, and dropping the series finale against Kent State on Tuesday with a 5-2 loss.
Molly McChesney (Verona, Wisc.) leads the offense with a .359 batting average. Jaiden Bryant (Hilliard, Ohio) provides power with eight home runs and 21 RBIs. Tiffany Stevens (Toledo, Ohio) is close behind with 20 RBIs and Lexi Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind.) has a team-high 11 doubles to go with 21 RBIs.

The RedHawks stand 29-13-1 and are the conference leaders with a 17-3 MAC record. Miami recently swept a series last weekend with Cal, before earning an 11-1 midweek tilt victory at Eastern Kentucky.
Karli Spaid leads the team hitting.428 with a team-high 22 homers and 51 RBI. Allie Cummins has connected on 14 homers while batting in 35 RBI.
Courtney Vierstra leads the way in the circle for Miami. Vierstra is 15-8 on the season with a 2.89 ERA. She has 151 strikeouts over 146.1 innings pitched.
