Bowling Green Secures Series Finale Over Zips

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio- The Akron Zips softball team (17-26, 12-10 MAC) fell in the series finale on Sunday afternoon to Bowling Green, 9-0 in five innings.

Bowling Green's pitcher, Payton Gottshall pitched a perfect game en route to the Falcons' victory.

BG scored three runs in the third inning, followed by adding six runs in the fourth inning to lead 9-0.

Akron saw action from five different pitchers in Sunday's game with Elizabeth Frederick (Williamsburg, Pa.) suffering the loss after pitching 2.0. innings giving up three runs on one hit. She walked four batters and struck out three.

It will be a busy week for the Zips as Akron will have two makeup games during the week before hosting Miami for a weekend series. The Zips will travel to Kent State on Tuesday, April 26 for a 3 p.m. start. The winner of Tuesday's game will receive a half point in the Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge. On Wednesday, Akron will host Toledo at 3 p.m.

Akron will close out the home portion of the schedule April 29-30 as the Zips host Miami for a series. Friday, April 29 Akron and the RedHawks will play at 3 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, April 30 with the first game starting at 1 p.m.
