BOWLING GREEN, Ohio- The Akron Zips softball team (17-25, 12-9 MAC) split its series opener in Saturday's doubleheader against Bowling Green. Akron fell in the first game, 3-2, but came out with a 5-2 victory in the second game.

GM 1: Akron 2, Bowling Green 3
Bowling Green took a 2-0 lead in the third inning from a 2-run homer. The Zips tied the game in the top of the sixth inning when Lexi Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind.) hit a 2-RBI double to left center allowing Angela Cirone (Louisville, Ohio) and Shelby Fortune (Grafton, Ohio) to score.

A homer to right field by the Falcons in the bottom of the sixth gave them a 3-2 lead and sealed the 3-2 victory for BG. Lexie Petrof (Ligonier, Pa.) suffered the loss after pitching 6.0 innings giving up three runs on six hits. Her 10 strikeouts were a season high.

GM 2: Akron 5, Bowling Green 2
The Zips bats came alive in the second game registering 10 hits. Akron got on the board first and took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Laurel DeVoe (North Canton, Ohio) hit a 2-Run homer to right center.

The Zips tallied a run in the third inning on a fielding error by the Falcons and added a pair of runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-0 lead. A fielder's choice play allowed Madison Dudek (Uniontown, Ohio) to score, followed by another error on the Falcons that scored Cirone.

The Falcons scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Zips secured the 5-2 victory.

Olivia Otani (Canton, Ohio) gets the win after pitching seven innings and giving up two runs on seven hits. She struck out four batters.

Akron will close out the series with Bowling Green on Sunday, April 24. First pitch is slated for noon.
