BUIS CREEK, N.C.- The Akron Zips softball team (1-10) registered its first win of the season after Akron opened the Campbell Invitational with a 12-9 victory over Cleveland State, before dropping an 8-0 decision to Campbell on the opening day of the Campbell Invitational.

GM 1: Akron 12, Cleveland State 9
Cleveland State started the game with an early 5-0 lead after the Vikings put up four runs in the first inning, followed by a run in the second.

Akron answered back in the third, after the Zips scored three runs thanks to a trio of wild pitches and base running. Junior Olivia Otani (Canton, Ohio) pinched hit and doubled to right center to drive in a run, followed by sophomore Tiffany Stevens (Toledo, Ohio) who drove in a run after she singled. The Zips tied the game at 5-5 when freshman Lexi Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind.) reached on a fielding error that drove in Molly McChesney (Verona, Wisc.)

The Vikings answered back and scored a solo run in the bottom of the fourth, before Akron knotted the game at 6 all in the fifth inning.

It wasn't until the seventh inning where the Zips added six more runs that proved to be too much for Cleveland State. Sophomore Laurel DeVoe (North Canton, Ohio) kicked off the scoring with a solo home run to right center. Campbell drove in a pair of runs after she singled through the left side with the bases loaded.

Cleveland State added a pair of runs in the seventh inning, but the Zips came out on top with the 12-9 victory.

Redshirt junior Alexa DiFeo (Akron, Ohio) got the win after pitching 2.2 innings. She gave up three runs of four hits, while striking out five batters.

GM 2: Akron 0, Campbell 0
Campbell plated three runs in the second inning, while adding another two in the fourth to put the hosts ahead, 5-0.

Akron had four hits through the fourth inning but couldn't drive in the four total runners that were left on base.

Campbell added three more runs in the fifth inning to secure the 8-0 victory.

Sophomore pitcher Olivia Stefanoni (Hudson, Ohio) suffered the loss after putting in two innings of work giving up three runs on three hits.

Akron will face Cleveland State tomorrow at 10 a.m., followed by taking on Iona at 5:30 p.m.
