AKRON, Ohio -Â The University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams continues it preparations for the upcoming Mid-American Conference Track and Field Championships this weekend as the Zips are set to compete at Doug Raymond Invitational hosted by Kent State and the Grand Valley State Big Meet in Allendale, Mich.

UP NEXT: The two-day Doug Raymond Invitational will commence at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11 with the women's long jump and pole vault, before running events get underway at 4:30 p.m. with the preliminary round of the women's 60-meter hurdles.

The final day of the meet commences on Saturday, Feb. 12, with the women's high jump, shot put and triple jump at 11 a.m. The final race, the men's 4x400 relay is scheduled to start at 4:25 p.m.

Akron will send a nine-member distance contingent to the Grand Valley State Big Meet on Friday. Set to compete for the Zips will be freshman Jean Dieuvil (North Miami Beach, Fla.), sophomores Makenna Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio) and Colt Hemphill (Louisville, Ohio), redshirt junior Oliver Huffman (Augusta, Ga.), seniors Varvara Lissichkina (Karaganda, Kazahkstan) and Hannah Long (Pacific, Mo.), sophomore Blake Lucius (Crestline, Ohio) and seniors Jacob Ondash (Hiram, Ohio) and Lindsey Scarton (Berea, Ohio).

NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron track and field teams have garnered recognition for their efforts during the 2022 indoor season as the Zips are rated in the Event Squad rankings released on Feb. 7, 2022, as part of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index.

Akron ranks 10th nationally in the men's 400 meters and men's triple as jump as well as rating among the top 20 in five different events.

The Zips also rated 11th in the women's pole vault, 15th in the men's weight throw and 17th in the men's long jump.

The Akron men and women are ranked eighth and ninth, respectively, in the Great Lakes Regional polls.

ZIPS RANK AMONG NATION'S BEST IN 2022 TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron has a pair of student-athletes currently ranked in the top-25 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) during the 2022 indoor campaign, including, sophomore Zarik Brown (Dayton, Ohio), who is 23rd in the nation in the men's 400 meters (46.72).
Also rated among the top-25 is redshirt junior, Milton Wilson (Streetsboro, Ohio) (25th in the men's weight throw – 69-0.50/21.04m).

CRACKING THE ALL-TIME TOP-FIVE PERFORMANCES: The Zips added five top-five performances in program history to the record book at Akron Invitational on Feb. 4-5.

The distance medley relay squad of Hannah Long, Varvara Lissichkina, Makenna Heimlich and freshman Beth Arentz (Cronulla, Australia) turned in a school-record time of 11:33.91 to win the event for Akron.

Junior Amya Clarke (Christ Church, St. Kitts and Nevis) bested the field in the women's 60 meters running the second-fastest time, 7.44, in indoor program history.

Jacob Ondash added the No. 3 mark (8:11.99) in indoor program history in the men's 3,000 meters, while redshirt sophomore Charles Sanders (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded the fifth-fastest time, 47.08, in the men's 400 meters.

CLARKE EARNS MAC ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS: Amya Clarke was recognized by the Mid-American Conference as the Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday, Feb. 9.

Clarke was honored by the league for the first time this season, while the Zips garnered weekly conference accolades for the fourth time in 2022.
Â
Clarke recorded career-best times of 7.44 and 24.37, respectively, at the Akron Invitational on Feb. 5 to take the titles in the women's 60 and 200 meters. Her effort in the women's 60 meters stands as the second-fastest time in indoor program history and top effort in the MAC this season.
