AKRON, Ohio - University of Akron track and field redshirt junior Milton Wilson (Streetsboro, Ohio) set a school-record mark en route to winning the men's weight throw with a career-best mark of 69-0.50 (21.04m) to highlight the Zips' performances on the final day of the 18th Annual Akron Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Stile Athletics Field House.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Wilson not only set a school-record mark winning the men's weight throw with a career-best mark (69-0.50/21.04m), but his effort stands as the No. 22 throw in the NCAA this season
• Junior Amya Clarke (Christ Church, St. Kitts and Nevis) recorded career-best times of 7.44 and 24.37, respectively, to take the titles in the women's 60 and 200 meters. Her effort in the women's 60 meters stands as the second-fastest time in indoor program history
• Senior Jacob Ondash (Hiram, Ohio) recorded the third-fastest time in indoor program history in the men's 3,000 meters to earn a third-place finish in 8:11.99
• Redshirt sophomore Charles Sanders (Cincinnati, Ohio) registered the fifth-fastest time in indoor men's 400 meters winning the race in a career-best time of 47.08, while freshman Jimmy Harkelroad (Huron, Ohio) added a career-best time of 47.14 to place second
• Freshman Fegor Clifford (Delta State, Nigeria) captured the women's gold division 400 meters in a career-best time of 55.73 after earlier in the day winning the blue division women's 200 meters in a time of 24.84
• Sophomore Blake Lucius (Crestline, Ohio) took the title in the men's mile in a career-best time of 4:10.21, while senior Hannah Long (Pacific, Mo.) won the women's mile on the strength of a career-best time of 4:51.35.
• Led by senior Hesham Eldesouky (Nasr City, Egypt) winning the men's long jump with a mark of 24-5.75 (7.46m), the Zips took four of the top-five finishes in the event. Sophomore Dimitrije Novakovic (Belgrade, Serbia) placed second with a jump of 24-3.50 (7.40m)
• Freshman Jacob Glavickas (Orwell, Ohio) finished in fourth place in the men's heptathlon with a seven-event career-best cumulative score of 4,731.
• Freshman Taylor Shriver (Waynesburg, Pa.) placed second in the women's pole vault eclipsing 13-5.25 (4.10m)
• Senior Varvara Lissichkina (Karaganda, Kazahstan) finished second in the women's 800 meters crossing the line in 2:12.79
• Freshman Oscar Prieto (Barcelona, Spain) came in third place in the men's pole vault with a career-best mark of 16-4.75 (5.00m) in his Akron debut
• The men's 4x400 relay team of freshman Jack Weaver (Mt. Gilead, Ohio), Lucius, redshirt junior Oliver Huffman (Augusta, Ga.) and senior Matthew Perison (Kent, Ohio) bested the field in 3:24.71, while the women's 4x400 relay squad of freshman Sage Harmon (Bloomsburg, Pa.), junior Sara Foster (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio), freshman Anna Altstadt (Huntingburg, Ind.) and redshirt freshman Maddie Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio) crossed the line first in 3:55.46
• Harkelroad bested the field in the men's blue division 200 meters crossing the line in a career-best time of 21.98
• Freshman Nighyah Carthen (Twinsburg, Ohio) placed second in the women's blue division shot put with a career-best mark of 43-5.75 (13.25m)
• Junior Jacqueline Pokuaah (Akron, Ohio) recorded a career-best time of 8.66 to edge the field in the women's 60-meter hurdles before placing second and third in the women's 60 and 200 meters in career-best times of 7.60 and 24.69
