AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's soccer squad begins the second half of its Mid-American Conference slate traveling to face Ball State on Thursday, Oct. 13, before hosting Central Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 16 at FirstEnergy Stadium. The showdown with the Cardinals is set for 4 p.m., while the Senior Day tilt against the Chippewas will begin at 1 p.m.

SENIOR DAY
Akron's contest versus Central Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 16 will represent Senior Day for a pair of Zips in Bailee Bowers (Dublin, Ohio) and Rielyn Hamilton (Burlington, Ky.).
Bowers has appeared in all 11 of the Zips' contests this season, including eight starts, having recorded a trio of shots. Over her four-year Akron career, she has appeared in 55 contests, including 43 starts, and has registered a trio of goals on the strength of 18 shots, with seven strikes falling on net.
A four-year member of the Akron squad, Hamilton has persevered through injuries to play in 12 games for the Zips owning a goal on the strength of five shots, including a pair on net.
SCOUTING AKRON
The Zips enters action on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 2-7-2 on the campaign following a 3-1 victory at Northern Illinois on Sunday, Oct. 9.
Sophomore Ella Hadley (Concord, Ohio) leads Akron with team-high marks in goals (4) and points (8), while freshman Emma King (Akron, Ohio) directs the squad in assists (2), shots (16) and shots on goal (8). Sophomore GK Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) has registered 46 saves en route to posting a 2.07 goals against average.
Under the direction of first-year head coach Jen Simonetti, the Zips return 16 players from last season's squad, including eight players who started 10 or more games. Akron is led by sophomore Katie Stafford (Gahanna, Ohio) who paced the team with four goals, an assist, and six shots on goal last season, while sophomore Sarah Nguyen (Irwin, Pa.) led the team with four assists and eight shots on goal. In the net, the Zips return Cuirinier, who made 18 starts in goal and registered 94 saves.
The Zips welcome three true freshmen to the squad in Ari Mahoney (Medina, Ohio), King, and Kristina Syragakis (Quebec, Canada), while also adding three transfers in Clara Krohn (Akron, Ohio), Merica Abnathy (Lakeland, Fla.), and Lacey Bernick (Huntingdon, Pa.).

Ball State comes into play against Akron on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 5-4-4 on the campaign, including a 4-1-1 mark in conference action, following a 2-0 setback against Western Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 2.
Junior Avery Fenchel directs Ball State's offensive efforts this season leading the squad in goals (10), points (20) and shots on goal (27), while sophomore Lexi Fraley paces the team in shots on goal (29). Sophomore GK Bethany Moser has pulled in 49 saves en route to posting a 1.33 goals against average.
SCOUTING CENTRAL MICHIGAN
Central Michigan enters play against Ohio on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 2-8-3 on the campaign, including 1-3-2 in league play, following a 1-1 draw against Toledo on Sunday, Oct. 9.
The quartet of juniors Jaelyn Dobrowolski, Megan Logue and Matilda Melin along with sophomore Ashley Scesniak lead the Chippewas with two goals apiece on the campaign, while Scesniak directs the squad in assists (4) and points (8) and Melin in shots (19) and shots on goal (15). Junior GK Kendall Krupiczewicz has pulled in 61 saves en route to posting a 2.12 goals against average.
SERIES HISTORY
The Zips will square off against Ball State for the 21st time in program history with the Cardinals leading the all-time series 13-2-5. A year ago, Akron dropped a 3-1 decision at Ball State on Oct. 3, 2021.
Akron and Central Michigan are meeting for the 21st time in program history with the Chippewas leading the all-time series 15-2-3. A season ago, the Central Michigan bested the Zips, 3-1, on Oct. 7, 2021 in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
