AKRON, Ohio- The University of Akron women's soccer team (2-8-0, 0-2-0 MAC) will continue conference play this week with a home match against Miami (5-2-3, 2-0-0 MAC) on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium, before traveling to Ball State (3-4-1, 1-0-1 MAC) on Sunday, Oct. 3 slated for 2 p.m.

SCOUTING AKRON:
Akron returns eight starters in 2021, including four of its top-five goal scorers led by junior Sydney Worthy (Groveport, Ohio), who posted team-high marks in goals (3), points (8), shots (13) and game-winners (2). Tallying one goal each for the Zips was redshirt junior Aislinn Meaney (Ennis, Ireland), junior Carly Pcholinsky (South Park, Pa.) and freshman Annabel Thomas (Canonsburg, Pa.). Sophomore GK Vanessa Berlin (Gau-Oderheim, Germany) returns for Akron after starting six games this past spring and recording 35 saves.

Akron enters Thursday's game 2-8-0 overall and 0-2-0 in MAC play after falling to Ohio, 1-0 on Sunday. The Bobcats struck 50 seconds into the second half when Shae Robertson found the back of the net and took a 1-0 lead, sealing the win for Ohio. Junior Sydney Worthy (Groveport, Ohio) led the Zips' offensive efforts with firing off four of Akron's 10 shots, with one on goal, while freshman Calli Swisher (Pittsburgh, Ohio) and junior Carly Pcholinsky (South Park, Pa.) both added two shots.
Stafford paces the Zips this season in goals (3), points (7) and shots on goal (4), while Meaney leads the squad in shots (15) and shots on goal (7).  Freshman goalkeeper Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) has recorded 51 saves on the campaign.

Akron is led by seventh-year head coach Noreen Herlihy, who maintains a 33-69-14 ledger at the helm of the Zips' program, and a 283-182-44 mark in 27 campaigns overall as a head coach.

Miami enters plays this Thursday, standing at 5-2-3 overall and 2-0-0 in MAC play after securing a 2-1 victory over Eastern Michigan.

The RedHawks are led by sophomore Julia Hoffmann who paces the squad in goals (3), while sophomore Haley Anspach leads the team with 30 shots, assits (3) and points (7). Senior goalkeeper Izzie Vaccri has played in ten games and has recorded 29 saves.

The RedHawks are led by 4th-year head coach Courtney Sirmans who maintains a 16-33-5 ledger at the helm of the Miami program.
