KENT, Ohio, The Akron women's soccer team (2-7-0, 0-1-0 MAC) fell 1-0 in the conference opener to rival Kent State on Thursday evening at Dix Stadium in the opening leg of the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center Wagon Wheel Challenge.

An early 24th-minute (24:24) goal from Khyla Porter proved to be the game-winning tally, one that lifted the Flashes to victory and earned Kent State a 0.5 point in the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center Wagon Wheel Challenge.

Kent State posted a 14-8 edge in shots on the evening, including 4-2 on goal.

Freshman Ella Hadley (Concord, Ohio) paced the Zips' offensive efforts with three shots, while freshman Sarah Nguyen (Irwin, Pa.) and freshman Morgan Shansky (Oakdale, Pa.) each tallied a shot on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) registered three saves in the game.

Akron returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 26 as the Zips host Ohio in a 1 p.m. contest at FirstEnergy Stadium.
