AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips needed one run in the bottom of the seventh inning with bases loaded and one out, but a game saving double play for Bowling Green sent game two into extra innings as the Falcons swept a doubleheader to take a 2-1 series lead at Skeeles Field on Saturday. Akron fell by scores of 6-0 and 7-2.

In the bottom of the seventh inning of game two, Akron drew three walks with one out but grounded into an inning ending double play, keeping the scoreboard knotted at 1-1. The Falcons scored six runs on four hits and an error in the extra frame for the win. Bowling Green scored the first run of the game in the first inning. Akron answered in the bottom of the third inning as junior Roy Thurman (Indianapolis, Ind.) sent a RBI double into left centerfield, scoring Bradley Goulet who reached base on an error.

The Zips received four hits in the second game with Thurman's RBI double leading the way. Juniors Justin Barr (Pensacola, Fla.), Zac Granger (Elmira, N.Y.) and Cameron Tilly (Canberra, Australia) added singles.

In the opening game, Bowling Green scored six runs on six hits with three runs in the second inning on one hit. The Falcons used three walks and a hit by pitch to plate the first run and with bases loaded received an RBI single to left field and a sacrifice flyout to the same side. The Falcons added one run in the fourth and two in the sixth for a 6-0 advantage. Bowling Green starting pitcher Andrew Abrahamowicz earned the shutout win, allowing four hits and four strikeouts in 25 batters faced.

Akron distributed four hits throughout game one but failed to push any runs across the plate. Goulet doubled to left center with two outs in the second inning, while Barr, junior Bryant Shellenbarger (Mount Vernon, Ohio) and junior Austin Domer (Orrville, Ohio) all singled.
