MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The University of Akron women's lacrosse team battled one of the top teams in the Mid-American Conference for a full 60 minutes before Robert Morris netted a 15-4 triumph over the Zips on Tuesday, March 16.

"We knew this game was going to be a battle, and our girls never let down," Akron head coach Christy Mitchell commented. "Young players rose up and gained experience that is going to keep building our momentum."

Freshman Noelle Boyd (Murrysville, Pa.), redshirt junior Anna Dennison (Fallston, Md.), redshirt freshmen Alexis Kiefer (West Chicago, Ill.) and freshman Anjali Silverheels (Hamburg, N.Y.) accounted for the Zips' goals in the contest as the quartet each netted a second-half tally for Akron.

Dennison and redshirt freshman Abby McMullen (Medina, Ohio) also garnered assists in the match for the Zips.

Redshirt freshman GK Abby Lerch (Coraopolis, Pa.) recorded a season-high 14 saves for Akron, while her counterpart Katelyn Miller posted six stops for Robert Morris.

The Colonials finished the contest registering a 40-17 edge in overall shots, and a 29-10 margin in shots on goal.

The Zips were held off the scoreboard in the opening half as Robert Morris posted a 24-7 advantage in shots to take assume a 7-0 lead at the intermission.

The Colonials scored the first three tallies of the second half before Kiefer netted her team-leading 15th goal of the season at the 12:24 mark.

Following another tally by Robert Morris, Akron collected back-to-back goals from Silverheels and Dennison in the 20th (19:16) and 21st (20:09) minutes, respectively.

Boyd capped the scoring in the tilt for the Zips with a goal with 21 seconds remaining.

Akron is slated to travel to Olean, N.Y., for a 1 p.m. non-conference showdown at St. Bonaventure on Saturday, March 20.
