Akron Concludes Season on the Road at Buffalo

AKRON, Ohio- The University of Akron Soccer team (3-14-1, 1-8-1 MAC) will close out the regular season on the road as the Zips face Buffalo (11-3-3, 5-2-3 MAC) on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m.

SCOUTING AKRON:
Akron returns eight starters in 2021, including four of its top-five goal scorers led by junior Sydney Worthy (Groveport, Ohio), who posted team-high marks in goals (3), points (8), shots (13) and game-winners (2). Tallying one goal each for the Zips was redshirt junior Aislinn Meaney (Ennis, Ireland), junior Carly Pcholinsky (South Park, Pa.) and freshman Annabel Thomas (Canonsburg, Pa.). Sophomore GK Vanessa Berlin (Gau-Oderheim, Germany) returns for Akron after starting six games this past spring and recording 35 saves.

Akron enters Thursday's game 3-14-1 overall and 1-8-1 in MAC play after falling to Bowling Green, 3-0 Sunday. Sydney Worthy (Groveport, Ohio) and Meaney paced the Zips' offense with two shots each. Goalkeeper Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) registered three saves.
Stafford paces the Zips this season in goals (4) and points (5), while Meaney leads the squad in shots (31) and shots on goal (16).  Freshman goalkeeper Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) has recorded 82 saves on the campaign.

Akron is led by seventh-year head coach Noreen Herlihy, who maintains a 34-76-16 ledger at the helm of the Zips' program, and a 284-189-46 mark in 27 campaigns overall as a head coach.

Buffalo enters plays this Thursday, standing at 11-3-3 overall and 5-2-3 in MAC play after tying with Toledo in 2OT .

The Bulls are led by graduate student Marcy Barberic who paces the squad in goals (9), points (22), and shots on goal (25) while Katherine Camper leads the team with six assists. Senior goalkeeper Emily Kelly has played in 17 games and registered 57 saves.

The Bulls are led by 8th-year head coach Shawn Burke who maintains a 78-47-21ledger at the helm of the Buffalo program.

SERIES HISTORY
It will be the 22nd meeting between Buffalo and Akron with the Bulls holding a narrow 10-8-3 series advantage. The Bulls went 1-0-1 in their two meetings with the Akron last season after defeating the Zips 2-1 in double overtime in the quarterfinals of the 2019 MAC Tournament.
