Akron Lacrosse Falls at Robert Morris

MOON, Pa. – University of Akron women's lacrosse fell to Robert Morris, 18-4, Sunday evening in Moon, Pa.

With the loss, Akron falls to 0-3 while Robert Morris improves to 2-1.

It was a rough afternoon for the Zips, who failed to gain any momentum early and found themselves trailing for the duration of the contest.

Junior Anna Dennison (Fallston, Md.), sophomore Kaylee Riggins (Zionsville, Ind.), and freshmen Kaija Kunttu (Zionsville, Ind.) and Kaitlyn Morris (West Seneca, N.Y.) were able to find the back of the net for the Zips, each contributing one goal.Â

Freshman Tahlia Townsend (St. Charles, Ill.) led the way with two caused turnovers and two ground balls while Riggins also contributed three ground balls for Akron. Both goalies played for the Zips, with freshman Falon Costigan (Huntersville, N.C.) earning the start and gathering three saves. Fellow goaltender Abby Lerch (Coraopolis, Pa.) reeled in five saves for Akron.Â

The Zips failed to score in the first half but finally got on the board early in the second thanks to a man-up goal by Dennison at the 26:09 mark. Akron was held scoreless until later in the half at the 11:26 mark when Riggins scored off a free-position attempt.Â

With 3:20 left in regulation, Kunttu netted her fourth goal of the season on a free-position attempt. Two minutes later, Morris scored the final goal of the game for the Zips with 1:14 remaining.Â

The Zips will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 23, as they return home to play the first-ever game at Infocision Stadium-Summa Field at 1 p.m.
