Akron Triumphs 16-3 at Central Michigan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – University of Akron junior Sienna Hinchcliffe (Rochester, N.Y.) and seniors Kellen Fletcher (Valencia, Pa.) and Kaitlyn Sikorski (Plymouth, Minn.) combined to score 13 goals to propel the Zips to a 16-3 triumph at Central Michigan on Saturday (April 25).
Akron will open Mid-American Conference Championship play on Thursday (April 30) with a 2 p.m. showdown versus third-seeded Eastern Michigan in Moon Township, Pa.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Hinchcliffe led all scorers with a career-best seven goals to go along with a pair of assists on the strength of a game-high nine shots, all on goal.
• Fletcher and Sikorski each netted three goals, while adding one tally apiece were seniors Heather Carey (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Katie Baumer (Rochester, N.Y.) along with sophomore Julia Mattingly (Leonardtown, Md.).
• Fletcher led the Zips with a game-high four assists, while adding two, two, one and one assists, respectively, was Baumer, Hinchcliffe, Mattingly and Sikorski.
• Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Adrianna Califano (Bellmore, N.Y.) recorded five saves in the match for Akron.
• Mattingly paced Akron with five draw controls, while four different Zips registered a pair of caused turnovers.
• Sophomore Kayla Murphy (Annapolis, Md.) tallied a game-high five ground balls.
