Akron Fly's the Flag with 9-5 Win Over Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio --The Akron Zips responded from tied 5-5 in the sixth inning to win in breathtaking fashion, securing a 9-5 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes Tuesday.
Offenisvely the Zips pounded out 12 hits to Fly the Flag in Columbus as Meagan Lee was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored. Akron also scattered four extra-base hits as Haley Glass (2-for-3) and Andrea Day (1-for-4) homered, while Sophia Wygast (2-for-5) and Lily Sullivan (1-for-5) unleashed doubles. Glass recorded an RBI and two runs scored, Day registered two RBI and a run scored, Wygast delivered a team-high four RBI and Sullivan had an RBI.
Junior Madie Jamrog (12-6) started in the circle and picked up the win for Akron (27-21, ). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up five runs, all of them earned, on eight hits, allowing no walks and striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 2-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Akron got on the board thanks to junior Sophia Wygast's RBI double with two outs.
The Zips deficit grew to 3-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, tying the score in the fifth inning. Akron picked up two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from junior Lily Sullivan, which evened the score at 3-3.
Ohio State broke that tie and took a 5-3 lead moving into the sixth, when Akron tied the game at five. Akron picked up two runs, including one on a solo homer off the bat of junior Haley Glass.
The game remained tied until the very next inning, when Akron got moving again on offense. The Zips scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Wygast and a two-run home run from sophomore Andrea Day, bringing the Akron advantage to 9-5. The score remained 9-5 for the rest of the game, as the Zips coasted to the win.
