AKRON, Ohio – Akron welcomes Youngstown State to InfoCision Stadium-Summa Health Field for a 3 p.m. Senior Day tilt on Saturday (April 18).
FIVE ZIPS TO HONORED ON SENIOR DAY:
Akron will recognize five Zips on Senior Day prior to the squad's match with Youngstown State on Saturday (April 18). The group of Katie Baumer (Rochester, N.Y.), Sarah Baumer (Rochester, N.Y.), Heather Carey (Williamsville, N.Y.), Dani Dahl (Fairfax, Va.) and Kellen Fletcher (Valencia, Pa.) will don the Blue and White one final time when Akron hosts the Penguins.
ZIPS NAME TEAM CAPTAINS FOR 2026:
The Akron senior duo of Katie Baumer and Sarah Baumer will serve as the Zips' captains for the 2026 campaign.
SCOUTING AKRON:
Junior Sienna Hinchcliffe (Rochester, N.Y.) leads the Zips in goals (57), points (77), shots (118), shots on goal (81) and ground balls (25), while ranking second in caused turnovers (11) and third in draw controls (40). Katie Baumer is second on the team in goals (32). Kellen Fletcher paces the squad in assists (24), while junior Kaitlyn Sikorski (Plymouth, Minn.) ranks third with 18. Heather Carey, ranks third on the squad in goals netting 29. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Adrianna Califano (Bellmore, N.Y.) has registered 78 saves, 21 ground balls and owns an 9.38 goals against average.
SCOUTING YOUNGSTOWN STATE:
Akron is meeting Youngstown State for the ninth time in program history. The Penguins are 3-11 on the campaign, including 2-3 in the Mid-American Conference, following an 7-6 setback against Central Michigan on April 11. Sophomore Claire Baenziger owns team-high totals in goals (34), assists (6), points (40), shots (87) and shots on goal (65) and draw controls (52). Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Edwards has collected 77 saves and 21 ground balls, respectively, en route to posting 13.01 goals against average. Youngstown State is led by first-year head coach Liza Oakley, who owns an 3-11 ledger as a head coach for the Penguins.
IN OUR LAST MEETING (MARCH 16, 2025 – YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO):
Sparked by a five-goal explosion from Noelle Boyd, Akron opened Mid-American Conference play with a come-from-behind 14-13 victory past Youngstown State on March 16, 2025, in Youngstown, Ohio.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Boyd registered a game-high five goals on the strength of seven shots, all on goal, while adding five draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover in Akron's first triumph in a league opener since 2022.
• Heather Carey and Kellen Fletcher along with Sienna Hinchcliffe netted two goals apiece, while Katie Baumer, sophomore Julia Mattingly (Leonardtown, Md.) and Kaitlyn Sikorski posted a goal each.
• Recording one assist each was Baumer, Fletcher and Sikorski.
• Hinchcliffe tallied a game-high 10 shots, including six on goal.

The Mid-American Conference announced the 2026 Preseason Coaches' Poll on Feb. 4 as Akron was selected by the league's women's lacrosse coaches to finish second this season.
Conference newcomer Massachusetts (48 points, 6 first-place votes) was tabbed to capture the regular and postseason championships followed by Akron (37 points), Eastern Michigan (37), Robert Morris (34, 1 first-place vote), Central Michigan (28), Kent State (19), Youngstown State (12) and Detroit Mercy (9).
AKRON OVERPOWERS ROBERT MORRIS:
Sienna Hinchcliffe continued her campaign towards garnering Mid-American Conference Player of the Year accolades registering a game-high six-goal and four-assist performance to propel the Zips to a 16-6 league triumph at Robert Morris on Saturday (April 11).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Hinchcliffe contributed on 10 of Akron's 16 goals in the affair collecting six goals and four assists on the strength of equaling a career- and game-high in shots (12) for the third consecutive game, while netting 10 shots on goal.
• Katie Baumer and Kellen Fletcher were equally impressive for the Zips netting three goals each.
• Heather Carey tallied a pair of goals, while sophomore Avery Wallace (Eden Prairie, Minn.) netted her first career goal at the 11:19 mark of the second quarter off an assist from Kaitlyn Sikorski.

A golden goal from Jaelyn Clinkscales with 14 seconds remaining in overtime propelled the Akron lacrosse team to its first ever Mid-American Conference Tournament title and NCAA Tournament berth with a come-from-behind 11-10 victory over Robert Morris in the league's title match on May 3, 2025, in Moon Township, Pa.
Picked to finish last in the MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Zips overcame a five-goal second-half deficit to force and overtime and set the stage for Clinkscales' game-winning goal in overtime.
