Zips Split Doubleheader with Robert Morris

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron softball team split a doubleheader with Robert Morris on Tuesday, winning the second game 10-2 while falling in game one 27-7.
Sophia Wygast, Lily Sullivan and Meagan Lee all recorded four hits, while Wygast drove in four runs and Sullivan recorded three RBI on the day against the Colonials.

Meagan Lee racked up three hits to help lead the Akron Zips past the Robert Morris Colonials 10-2 Tuesday.
In addition to her three hits, Lee had a double to lead the Zips. Sophia Wygast compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Kylie Bailey also helped out for Akron, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a home run and two RBI.
Madie Jamrog (9-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for Akron (24-20). The right-hander went four innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on three hits, allowing no walks and striking out seven. Macy Walters also made an impact in the circle for the Zips, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Wygast put Akron on the board with a one-out solo home run off Madelyn Coleman.
The Zips lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the third trailing 2-1. The Akron offense exploded for seven runs, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of Bailey and a two-run single from Sydney Selker, which brought the Zips lead to 8-2.
Akron held Robert Morris scoreless before building their lead to 9-2 the following inning.
Akron held the Colonials scoreless before their offense got things moving the next inning. The Zips scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Lily Sullivan, bringing the score to 10-2 in favor of Akron. The score remained 10-2 for the rest of the game, as the Zips coasted to the win.

The Akron Zips got a boost from Lily Sullivan, who racked up three hits in a 27-7 loss to the Robert Morris Colonials Tuesday.
In addition to her three hits, Sullivan had two RBI to lead the Zips. Sophia Wygast furnished a standout performance as well, going 2-for-2 with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Kenzie Gatti also chipped in for Akron, putting together one hit in one trip to the plate while adding a double, a walk and two RBI.
Sydney Selker (0-3) started and took the loss in the circle for Akron (23-20).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 5-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Akron plated two runs when Wygast left the yard with Gatti aboard.
The Colonials expanded their lead to 11-2 before the Zips offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the third. Akron scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Sullivan, which tightened the Colonials lead to 11-3.
Robert Morris expanded their lead to 22-3 before the Akron offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 22-7 in the fourth. The Zips bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Gatti. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Robert Morris added five runs to their tally on the way to a 27-7 final.
