AKRON, Ohio -Â The University of Akron lacrosse team hosts Radford in a noon match on Wednesday (Feb. 25) at the Stile Athletics Field House.

ZIPS NAME TEAM CAPTAINS FOR 2026:
The Akron senior duo of Katie Baumer (Rochester, N.Y.) and Sarah Baumer (Rochester, N.Y.) will serve as the Zips' captains for the 2026 campaign.

SCOUTING AKRON:
Junior Sienna Hinchcliffe (Rochester, N.Y.) leads the Zips in goals (16), points (21), shots (30), shots on goal (21), ground balls (10) and caused turnovers (5), while ranking second in assists (5), draw controls (10) and ground balls (10). Katie Baumer is second on the team in goals (12). Junior Kaitlyn Sikorski (Plymouth, Minn.) paces the squad in assists (10) and ground balls (11). Senior Heather Carey (Williamsville, N.Y.), junior Kellen Fletcher (Valencia, Pa.) and Sikorski rank third on the squad in goals netting five apiece. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Adrianna Califano (Bellmore, N.Y.) has registered 27 saves, seven ground balls and owns a 11.94 goals against average.

Akron is meeting Radford for the fifth time in program history. The Highlanders are 0-2 on the campaign following a 17-7 setback versus George Washington on Saturday (Feb.21). Senior Mady Cheney leads the squad in goals (5), points (5), shots (10), shots on goal (9) and draw controls (5). Junior goalkeeper Ava LaManna has collected 23 saves and two ground balls on the campaign en route to posting a 14.50 goals against average. Radford is led by fifth-year head coach Samantha Hurley, who owns an 15-53 ledger as a head coach for the Highlanders and is 48-78 in nine seasons overall as a head coach.

AKRON PICKED TO FINISH SECOND IN MAC PRESEASON POLL:
The Mid-American Conference announced the 2026 Preseason Coaches' Poll on Wednesday (Feb. 4) as Akron was selected by the league's women's lacrosse coaches to finish second this season.
Conference newcomer Massachusetts (48 points, 6 first-place votes) was tabbed to capture the regular and postseason championships followed by Akron (37 points), Eastern Michigan (37), Robert Morris (34, 1 first-place vote), Central Michigan (28), Kent State (19), Youngstown State (12) and Detroit Mercy (9).

AKRON FALLS TO UNBEATEN CANISIUS:
The University of Akron lacrosse squad saw its unbeaten streak to open the campaign end at three as Canisius registered a 19-10 triumph over the Zips on Saturday (Feb. 21) at the Stile Athletics Field House.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Akron garnered a team-high three from Sienna Hinchcliffe, while Kaitlyn Sikorski posted a two-goal and team-high two-assist performance for the Zips.
• Katie Baumer tallied two goals, while Heather Carey and Kellen Fletcher along with freshman Faith Sellet recorded one goal apiece.
• Goalkeeper Adrianna Califano garnered a game- and career-high eight saves.
• Sikorski and Fletcher dished out two and one assist, respectively, for the Zips.
• Fletcher posted a game-high three ground balls, while Baumer pulled in a team-best six draw controls.
• Four different Zips collected a caused turnover for Akron.

A golden goal from Jaelyn Clinkscales with 14 seconds remaining in overtime propelled the Akron lacrosse team to its first ever Mid-American Conference Tournament title and NCAA Tournament berth with a come-from-behind 11-10 victory over Robert Morris in the league's title match on May 3, 2025, in Moon Township, Pa.
Picked to finish last in the MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Zips overcame a five-goal second-half deficit to force and overtime and set the stage for Clinkscales' game-winning goal in overtime.
