Akron Never Trails in 10-2 Win Over Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, SC --The Akron Zips took a 6-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 10-2 win against the Charleston Southern Buccaneers in the Lowcountry Classic finale on Saturday.
Sophomore Ma. Lee (0-0) started in the circle and picked up the win for Akron (4-7). The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs on three hits and striking out four batters.
Offensively, eight Zips contributed in delivering 11 total hits as Meagan Lee, Sydney Selker and Kylie Bailey recorded multiple hit performances with two hits each. Lee scored a pair of runs, while Selker and Bailey collected two RBIs each. Bailey issued a double, while Haley Glass and Delany Jenkinson both belted 2-run homers to roundout the extra-base hit efforts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Akron's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a two-run home run off the bat of junior Haley Glass and a two-run double from freshman Kylie Bailey.
The Zips then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the fourth inning after the Buccaneers cut it to 6-2. The Akron offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of junior Delaney Jenkinson, which brought the Zips lead to 10-2. The score remained 10-2 for the rest of the game, as Akron coasted to the win.

The Akron Zips travel to Raleigh, N.C. for the Raleigh Times Tournament hosted by NC State on Friday through Sunday, Feb. 20-22 for five games. Akron is scheduled to play Providence and Illinois on Feb. 20, Illinois and NC State on Feb. 21 and NC State on Feb. 22 at Dail Softball Stadium.
