MORGANTOWN, W.VA. – The University of Akron track and field team garnered a pair of victories as part of 11 overall top-three performance at the WVU Last Chance meet hosted by West Virginia on Saturday (May 4).
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Redshirt sophomore Gabrielle Griffiths (Fort Worth, Texas) was a double winner for the Zips capturing the women's shot put and javelin with marks of 44-7 (13.59m) and 128-7 (39.20m), respectively.
• Junior Nighyah Carthen (Twinsburg, Ohio) won the women's discus with a mark of 135-11 (41.43m), while freshman La'Kasja Edwards (Alliance, Ohio) placed second with a mark of 130-0 (39.63m).
• Sophomore Josiah Cox (New Franklin, Ohio) placed second in the men's shot put with a career-best mark of 57-4.25 (17.48m).
• Redshirt senior Jabari Neal-Jackson (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished second in the men's hammer with a throw of 203-10 (62.13m)
• Freshman Mary Munga (Nyandarua, Kenya) crossed the line in a career-best time of 2:08.32 to finish second in the women's 800 meters.
