Zips Fall to Kent State to Conclude the Series

AKRON, Ohio -Â The Akron Zips got three hits from Michael Sprockett in a 13-8 loss to the Kent State Golden Flashes on Sunday.
In addition to his three hits, Sprockett had a double and an RBI to lead the Zips. Breydan Cavey went 2-for-5 with two RBI. Sam Seeker also helped out for Akron, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
Spencer Atkins (3-8) got the ball to start for Akron (14-36, 9-18) and took the loss. Yassir Kahook threw two shutout innings out of the pen where he allowed just two hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board when Seeker and Sprockett had RBI swings.Â
The Zips lost the lead they built in the first but got back on the board in the third trailing 5-2. which brought the score level at 5-5.
Kent State busted up the tie and took a 7-5 lead heading into the seventh when Akron narrowed the gap to 7-6.
The Golden Flashes expanded their lead to 13-6 before the Akron offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the ninth. Cavey's run-scoring single brought home one run in a two-run output for the Zips, bringing the score to 13-8 in favor of Kent State. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
