ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Akron Zips had a tough showing on Tuesday, falling to the Michigan Wolverines 14-4.

At the plate, the Zips were led by Jack Poist, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Evan Bottone went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. James Strom also contributed for Akron, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate.

With his home run, Poist recorded his 200th career hit. Playing his first two seasons at Berry (Div. III), he has 105 hits while wearing the Akron Blue and Gold.

Emmett Gillies (1-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Akron (14-37). Tre Rex was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 9-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the fifth inning when two Zips came around on a walk and sacrifice fly.

The Zips kept the Wolverines off the board before narrowing the gap further in the sixth. Austin Lafferty came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which tightened the Wolverines' lead to 9-3.

Michigan expanded their lead to 12-3 before the Akron offense got going, reducing that lead to 12-4 in the seventh on a home run from Poist.

GAME NOTES

» Akron's highest-scoring inning was the fifth when it pushed two runs across.

» Akron pitchers faced 42 Michigan hitters in the game, allowing four ground balls and 12 fly balls while striking out four.

» Poist led the Zips at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
