Akron Blows By Ohio 12-3 in Game Two of the Doubleheader to Even Series 1-1

ATHENS, Ohio - After falling 7-3 to Ohio in game one of a doubleheader, the Akron baseball team stormed back and took down the Bobcats 12-3 to even the series 1-1.
GAME 1 | Ohio 7, Akron 3
The Akron Zips fell in game one to the Ohio Bobcats 7-3 to begin the doubleheader.
At the plate, the Zips were led by Andrew Horvath, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Austin Lafferty put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and an RBI.
Jared Schaeffer (3-8) started and took the loss on the mound for Akron (14-38, 9-19). Anthony Fett threw three shutout innings while allowing one hit out of the pen.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Evan Bottone came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
The Bobcats then rallied to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead before the Zips got back on the board in the second. Akron picked up a run on Horvath's leadoff home run.
Ohio busted up the tie and grabbed a 4-2 lead heading into the fourth when Akron closed the gap to 4-3. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Ohio added three runs to their tally on the way to a 7-3 final.

Sam Seeker and Jack Poist each racked up two extra base hits to help propel the Akron Zips over the Ohio Bobcats 12-3 on Thursday.
Jack Kelley (3-1) got the win for Akron (15-38, 10-19). The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out two. Dawson Tourney also pitched well, going three shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out four to earn the save.
Poist's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-6 day, and included a double, a home run and four RBI. Seeker made his contribution with a double, a triple and four RBI, part of a 3-for-6 performance at the plate. Evan Bottone also chipped in for the Zips, putting together three hits in six trips to the plate while adding a double and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Akron's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a three-run triple off the bat of Seeker and a two-run single from Bottone.
The Bobcats failed to push any runs across before the Zips built on their lead in the fourth inning. Akron got back-to-back run-scoring doubles from Max Bowman and Seeker to pick up a couple of runs, which brought the Zips lead to 8-0.
Akron held Ohio scoreless before building their lead to 12-0 the following inning. The Zips got a grand slam from Poist to cash in four runs in the frame. Ohio put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Akron still coasted to the 12-3 win.
