Zips Fall to Flyers in Mid-Week Action
April 09 | Baseball
DAYTON, Ohio -Â Akron received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, but the Zips fell to the Dayton Flyers 12-7 on Tuesday.
In the batter's box, the Zips were paced by Max Bowman, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Sam Seeker put together a 2-for-4 day with a walk and an RBI. Jack Poist also helped out for Akron, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
Elijah Griffith (1-3) started and took the loss on the mound for Akron (6-25). Jacob Beall and Michael Orlowski both had scoreless and hitless relief appearances out of the pen. Beal went two innings with one strikeout while Orlowski faced only three batters in his lone inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Akron managed to push across two runs in the inning.
The Flyers then rallied to score four runs and take a 4-2 lead before the Zips got back on the board in the second. Akron managed to push across two runs in the inning, which evened the score at 4-4.
Dayton broke that tie and took an 11-4 lead moving into the seventh, when Akron narrowed the gap to 11-5.
The Flyers expanded their lead to 12-5 before the Akron offense got back in action, biting into that lead in the ninth. Seeker's run-scoring single brought home one run in a two-run output for the Zips, bringing the score to 12-7 in favor of Dayton. The ballgame ended with that ninth inning rally falling short.
