Zips Travel to Face Dayton on Tuesday

AKRON, Ohio – The Zips stay in Ohio as they travel to battle the Dayton Flyers in non-conference action on Tuesday, April 9.

SCOUTING REPORT
The Flyers come into Tuesday's contest with a 19-12 overall record and a 9-3 record at home.
Dayton has picked up back-to-back conference series wins over Fordham and St. Bonaventure along with winning four of its last five games.
The Flyers are led by David Mendez in batting average with a .385 average. Mendex also has 37 hits, 31 runs, four doubles, two triples, three home runs, 27 RBI and 11 stolen bases. David Pedanou, who is hitting .300, leads the Flyers with 17 stolen bases.
Eddie Yamin IV is tied with Mendez for the team lead in hits (37) while Carlos Castillo has eight doubles. Yamin IV and Mason Dobie both have a team high six home runs while Yamin IV leads the Flyers in RBI with 30.
Nick Wissman leads Dayton in ERA with a 2.88 ERA in 15 appearances. He has five saves, a 6-1 record, in 34.1 innings of work while striking out 34. Connor Fennell has thrown 38.1 innings of work with a team high 40 strikeouts this season.

Akron comes into Tuesday with a 6-24 overall record after closing the series with Western Carolina with a 15-8 victory.
The Zips scored their 15 runs on 15 hits against the Catamounts in the third game of the series. Five Zips had mult-hit games while Michael Sprockett had four RBI on two hits. Max Bowman, Jack Poist and Charlie Schebler all had three hits.
Josiah Ross threw the final two innings where he allowed just three hits, no runs and struck out four.
Both Schebler and Bowman hit .500 or better against WCU, while Poist hit .400. Schebler and Bowman each had five hits while Bowman recorded six RBI with a double and triple. Sprockett hit two home runs and had seven RBI in the series.
On the season, Max Bowman leads the Zips in batting average with a .308 average. He also leads Akron in hits (32), triples (4) RBI (22) and is tied for the lead in home runs (2). Schebler is second on the squad in batting average with .288.
Sean Perkins leads the Zips in ERA with a 3.38 ERA in 11 appearances and 21.1 innings of work. Jared Schaeffer is the leader in innings pitched with 36.1 thrown while Dawson Tourney is close behind with 36.0. Jack Kelley and Yassir Kahook have seen the most action this season with the pair each having 13 appearances. Spencer Atkins is the Zips leader in strikeouts with 29 on the season.
CURRENT STREAKS
Evan Bottone leads Akron with a 22-game on-base streak. Jack Poist holds the second longest active streak with nine straight games reaching base. Max Bowman's 25-game on-base streak is the longest recorded for Akron.
Michael Spockett leads the Zips with a five-game hitting streak entering Tuesday. Poist's six-game streak from earlier this season is still the top mark.

Sean Perkins was named the MAC Pitcher of the week on March 4 after picking up a win over No. 10/12 Duke.
Coming in down 2-1 against Duke in the second game of the series, Perkins pitched five innings of near-spotless baseball as the Zips defeated the No. 10/12 Blue Devils 4-3 on March 2. Throwing the final five innings, Perkins held his own with just two hits allowed along with one run and two strikeouts to earn the win. He sent Duke three-up-three down in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings and ended the ninth with a strikeout. Perkins also held Duke's hitters to a combined .118 batting average over the five innings of work.

The Zips have numerous connections to the MAC on their coaching staff as well as players.
Head coach Bryan Faulds collected his first win leading the Akron Zips in the second game of a doubleheader against Illinois on February 14. Down 4-2 heading to the bottom of the seventh, Akron battled to force extra-innings when Max Bowman sent a walk-off home run in the 11th inning to give the Zips a 5-4 victory.
