Akron Unleashes 15 Runs in Victory Over Western Carolina

MASON, Ohio -Â Michael Sprockett racked up four RBI while two other Zips compiled three RBIÂ as the Akron Zips defeated the Western Carolina Catamounts 15-8 on Sunday.
Sprockett went 2-for-5 with a home run in addition to his four RBI. Max Bowman furnished a noteworthy day at the dish, going 3-for-5 with a triple, a walk and three RBI. Charlie Schebler also chipped in for Akron, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double and three RBI.
Dawson Tourney (1-5) got the win for Akron (6-24). The southpaw went five innings, giving up six runs, four earned, on seven hits, allowing one walk and striking out two. Josiah Ross also pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing three hits, walking none and striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Akron put up two runs in the frame, highlighted by an RBI triple off the bat of Bowman.
The Catamounts then tied the ballgame at two before the Zips came back to reclaim their advantage in the third inning. Akron scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Sprockett, scoring Evan Bottone and Jack Poist, which brought the Zips lead to 5-2.
Akron kept Western Carolina scoreless before expanding their lead to 11-2 the following inning. The Zips bats heated up in the inning, scoring six runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Bowman and a two-run single from Poist.
The Catamounts fought back, closing the gap to 11-6 until Akron added some insurance in the sixth. The Zips scored twice, with one run coming across on Schebler's 1-out single, bringing the score to 13-6 in favor of Akron.
Western Carolina got within 13-8 until the Zips scored again in the eighth inning to stretch its lead to 15-8. Akron plated two runs off of Western Carolina pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Sam Seeker. The score remained 15-8 for the rest of the game, as the Zips coasted to the win.
