Jack Poist Homers Twice - Zips Claim Series With 12-10 Win Over WMU

AKRON, Ohio - Jack Poist put together a stellar performance at the plate Sunday, hitting two homers to help power the Akron Zips over the Western Michigan Broncos 12-10.
Poist went 4-for-5 at the plate, supplementing his two home runs with a double while driving in three runs. Sam Seeker added to the Zips'  power-hitting performance by going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and three RBI. Evan Bottone went 2-for-5 with two RBI in the Zips winning performance.
Spencer Atkins (2-7) got the win out of the bullpen for Akron (11-32, 6-15). The right-hander went four innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out three. Sean Perkins earned the save after pitching the final two innings, surrendering one run on one hit, walking none and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 4-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board when Poist hit a one-out solo home run.
The Broncos expanded their lead to 7-1 before the Zips offense got back to work, taking the lead in the second. The Akron offense exploded for seven runs, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Seeker and a two-run double from Max Bowman, which brought the Zips' lead to 8-7.
Western Michigan fired back to even the ballgame at eight before Akron reclaimed a 10-8 advantage in the fifth inning.
The Broncos fought back, closing the gap to 10-9 until Akron added some insurance in the eighth. The Zips scored twice on Poist's two-run homer, bringing the Akron advantage to 12-9. Western Michigan put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Zips still held on for the 12-10 win.
