ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Akron Zips fell 8-7 in 11 innings to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Wednesday.

Josiah Ross (0-2) came out of the bullpen for Akron (6-30) and took the loss. Emmett Gillies went 2.1 scoreless innings in relief, allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Zips were trailing 3-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Evan Bottone's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Akron.

The Golden Grizzlies expanded their lead to 5-2 before the Zips offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the sixth. Akron scored twice on Sam Seeker's two-run homer, which tightened the Golden Grizzlies lead to 5-4.

Oakland built their lead to 6-4 before the Akron offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 6-5 in the seventh.

Akron kept the Golden Grizzlies off the board before tying it up in the ninth when Michael Sprockett's RBI double tied the game at 6-6.

That 6-6 tie turned into a 7-6 Zips lead in the eleventh. Sprockett came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board. The Zips were unable to hold the lead, as Oakland scored two times in the bottom half of the eleventh to grab the 8-7 win.
