MUNCIE, Ind. - Four Zips had a multi-hit game while Henry Hayman and Michael Sprockett each racked up three RBI in a 14-9 loss to Ball State on Sunday.
Sprockett went 2-for-5 at the plate with a double in addition to his three RBIÂ and Hayman put together a 1-for-3 day with a home run and two walks, supplementing his three RBI performance for the Zips. Fisher Pyatt compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and an RBI. Max Bowman recorded a team-high three hits and had an RBI as well while Evan Bottone and Jack Poist combined for four hits, four runs and one RBI.
Dawson Tourney (1-6) started and took the loss on the mound for Akron (6-28, 1-14).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning as Bowman's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Akron.
The Zips then held the Cardinals scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Akron pushed across a run on Pyatt's one-out RBI double, which brought the Zips lead to 3-0.
Akron's lead evaporated once the fifth inning arrived and turned into an 8-3 Ball State advantage, when the Zips cut that deficit to 8-6. The Zips scored three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-RBI double from Sprockett.
The Cardinals expanded their lead to 11-6 before the Akron offense got back in action, digging into that lead in the seventh. The inning resulted in three runs for the Zips, all of them scoring on a three-run homer off the bat of Hayman to left, tightening the Ball State lead to 11-9. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Ball State added three runs to their tally on the way to a 14-9 final.
