Zips Unable To Keep Up In Offensive Battle With Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio -Â Max Bowman collected four RBI, but the Akron Zips fell to the Cincinnati Bearcats 19-8 on Wednesday.
Bowman went 2-for-4 with a walk in addition to his four RBI for the Zips. Evan Bottone put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Charlie Rhee also contributed for Akron, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
Josiah Ross (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Akron (3-8). Emmett Gillies dealt a shutout inning out of the pen, allowing just one hit, walking none, and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, as Bottone put Akron on the board with a leadoff home run.
The Bearcats then rallied to score eight runs and take an 8-1 lead before the Zips got back on the board in the third. Akron scored once on an RBI single from Bowman, which brought the score to 8-2 in favor of the Bearcats.
Cincinnati expanded their lead to 11-2 before the Akron offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 11-4 in the fifth. The Zips scored two runs on a single from Bowman that brought home Rhee and Jack Poist.
The Bearcats expanded their lead to 15-4 before the Akron offense got back to work, digging into that lead in the eighth. The Zips scored four runs in the inning, bringing the score to 15-8. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Cincinnati added four runs to their tally on the way to a 19-8 final.
