Akron Drops Twinbill to Western Michigan

Kalamazoo, Mich. -- The Akron Zips dropped a doubleheader against Western Michigan, falling 7-0 and 5-3 to the Broncos at Ebert Field on Friday.

Though they had plenty of opportunities, Akron struggled to cash them in, leaving 10 Zips on base in a 5-3 defeat at the hands of the Western Michigan Broncos on Friday.

In the batter's box, the Zips were paced by sophomore Meagan Lee, who went 1-for-4 on the day with an RBI. Freshman Lily Sullivan furnished a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4.

Freshman Macy Walters (3-4) started and took the loss in the circle for Akron (14-17, 5-3).

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Zips were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Akron managed to push across two runs in the inning.

The Broncos then rallied to score two runs and take a 3-2 lead before the Zips got back on the board in the fourth. Akron scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Lee, which evened the score at 3-3. Western Michigan then scored two times over the remaining three innings to break the tie and grab the 5-3 win.

Western Michigan pitcher, senior Rissa Bajusz, limited the Zips to a pair of hits in a shut out effort in the series opener as, junior Autumn Baily and sophomore Meagan Lee delivered the hits for Akron.Â
Sophomore Haley Croyle (5-8) earned the loss in the circle for Akron (14-16, 5-2).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Akron did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Zips went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the fourth, when sophomore Meagan Lee made it into scoring position with nobody out.

Akron will then travel to play Bowling Green in a weekend showdown against the Falcons on April 6-7 with a doubleheader on Saturday (1 and 3:30 p.m.) and the series finale on Sunday (1 p.m.).
