Zips Fall to Miami Twice in Friday's Doubleheader

GAME 1 | Miami (OH) 15, Akron 5
Max Bowman collected four hits, but the Akron Zips fell to the Miami (OH) RedHawks 15-5 on Friday.
In addition to his four hits, Bowman had a double, a triple and three RBI to lead the Zips. Fisher Pyatt put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Jack Poist also chipped in for Akron, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
Dawson Tourney (0-5) got the ball to start for Akron (5-20, 1-10) and took the loss. Junior Jacob Beall was a bright spot for the Zips, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 2.1 innings, giving up one unearned run, on no hits, with three walks and one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Akron got on the board thanks to Bowman's RBI double with one out.
The Zips lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 7-1. Akron pushed across a run on Pyatt's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 7-2 in favor of the RedHawks.
Miami built their lead to 9-2 before the Akron offense got going, reducing that lead to 9-4 in the fifth. The Zips recorded two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple from Bowman.
The RedHawks expanded their lead to 11-4 before the Akron offense got back in action, cutting into that lead in the eighth. The Zips scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Bowman, tightening the Miami (OH) lead to 11-5. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Miami added four runs to their tally on the way to a 15-5 final.

AKRON, Ohio --Akron received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, but the Zips fell to the Miami RedHawks 7-5Â
In the batter's box, the Zips were led by Poist, who went 3-for-5 on the day with a double and two RBI. Charlie Schebler put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Henry Hayman also contributed for Akron, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and an RBI.
Spencer Atkins (0-4) got the ball to start for Akron (5-21, 1-11) and took the loss. Sean Perkins was a bright spot for the Zips, coming out of the bullpen and throwing two shutout innings, allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Akron scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Schebler.
The RedHawks then rallied to score five runs and take a 6-3 lead before the Zips got back on the board in the sixth. Poist came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which tightened the RedHawks lead to 6-4.
Akron held the RedHawks off the board before narrowing the gap to 6-5 in the seventh. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Miami  added one run to their tally on the way to a 7-5 final.
