SCOUTING REPORT
Youngstown State comes into Wednesday's contest with a 3-23 overall record, a 2-7 conference record and a 1-16 road record.
The Penguins recently were swept by Northern Kentucky in Horizon League play this weekend. The second game of the series was the closest, with YSU falling 8-7 in the 10th inning. YSU held a 6-3 lead heading into the top of the eighth before NKU scored four in the inning to take a 7-6 advantage. YSU scored the tying run in the bottom of the ninth before NKU scored in the top of the 10th.
Youngstown had 11 hits while three players had two hits in the second game against the Norse. Brett Stanley had three RBI while Eli Brown had two hits, two runs, one RBI and three walks.
Trey Law leads the Penguins in batting average with a .337 mark while adding a team high 33 hits, 19 runs, five doubles, eight RBI and seven stolen bases. Alejandro Covas is hitting .301 with 28 hits, 16 runs, one double, four triples, eight RBI and nine stolen bases. Ian Francis leads the way with 17 RBI on 22 hits.
Jacob Gehring leads YSU in ERA with a 7.29 in seven appearances and seven starts. He's thrown 33.1 innings with 23 strikeouts while batters are hitting .268 against him. Gehring also holds two of the three wins for YSU.
Chris Domke had two saves in 10 appearances, 8.1 innings of work, and has struck out nine.

The first game of the series saw Jared Schaeffer go eight innings in a narrow 2-1 loss while game two saw Max Bowman almost hit for the cycle with a four hit, three RBI game.
Bowman leads the Zips in batting average with a .300 mark through 26 games played. Bowman has 27 hits, 11 runs, four doubles, a team high three triples and two home runs. He also has 16 RBI and has stolen two bases.
Jack Poist leads the squad with nine stolen bases while recording 20 hits, six doubles and six RBI.
Evan Bottone had 22 hits along with four doubles, one home run, 11 RBI and six stolen bases.
Sean Perkins has a team low 2.95 ERA through nine appearances out of the pen. Perkins is 1-1 on the season and has thrown 18.1 innings of work. Anthony Fett and Jack Kelly have both thrown over 20 innings in relief this season and have struck out a combined 34 hitters.
Spencer Atkins leads the starting rotation with 28 strikeouts over 31.1 innings of work. Both Schaeffer and Dawson Tourney have gone 31 innings with Tourney striking out 25 and Schaeffer striking out 21.

Bowman continues to increase his on-base streak with 25 consecutive games. Bottone and Nicky Sackett are also on a 10+ game streak. Bottone has reached base safely in 18 straight games while Sackett has reached base in 11 consecutive games.
Poist and Bottone are both on three game hitting streaks. Poist recorded six straight games with a hit earlier in the season.

PERKS OF THE JOB
Sean Perkins was named the MAC Pitcher of the week on March 4 after picking up a win over No. 10/12 Duke.
Coming in down 2-1 against Duke in the second game of the series, Perkins pitched five innings of near-spotless baseball as the Zips defeated the No. 10/12 Blue Devils 4-3 on March 2. Throwing the final five innings, Perkins held his own with just two hits allowed along with one run and two strikeouts to earn the win. He sent Duke three-up-three down in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings and ended the ninth with a strikeout. Perkins also held Duke's hitters to a combined .118 batting average over the five innings of work.
ONE TO REMEMBER
Head coach Bryan Faulds collected his first win leading the Akron Zips in the second game of a doubleheader against Illinois on February 14. Down 4-2 heading to the bottom of the seventh, Akron battled to force extra-innings when Max Bowman sent a walk-off home run in the 11th inning to give the Zips a 5-4 victory.

The Zips travel to Mason, Ohio., to battle Western Carolina in a three-game series starting April 5.
