AKRON, Ohio -Â Youngstown State's one-run fifth proved to be the difference in the ballgame, as the Akron Zips lost a nailbiter to the Penguins by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday.
Elijah Griffith (1-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Akron (5-22). Jack Kelley, Emmett Gillies, Josiah Ross and Sean Perkins combined for 4.2 innings of scoreless baseball out of the pen.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Akron got an RBI single from Michael Sprockett, scoring Sam Seeker from second base.
The Penguins then rallied to score three runs and take a 3-1 lead before the Zips got back on the board in the fourth. Henry Hayman's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Akron scored twice, which brought the score level at 3-3. Youngstown State then scored one time over the remaining five innings to break the tie and grab the 4-3 win.

» Akron's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed two runs across.
» Akron pitchers faced 40 Youngstown State hitters in the game, allowing 12 ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out six.
