Akron Drops Tough 7-3 Contest to Western Carolina

MASON, Ohio - The Akron Zips fell 7-3 on Friday to the Western Carolina Catamounts.
In the batter's box, the Zips were led by Max Bowman, who went 1-for-2Â with a double, a walk and an RBI. Austin Lafferty furnished a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a double. Michael Sprockett also helped out for Akron, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
Jared Schaeffer (0-5) got the ball to start for Akron (5-23, ) and took the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 3-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Sprockett's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Akron.
The Catamounts expanded their lead to 5-2 before the Zips offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the eighth. Akron pushed across a run on Bowman's two-out RBI double, which tightened the Catamounts lead to 5-3. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Western Carolina added two runs to their tally on the way to a 7-3 final.

» Akron's highest scoring inning was the fifth, when it pushed two runs across.
