Sprockett and Strom Hit Home Runs in Loss to Western Carolina

MASON, Ohio - A four run offensive outburst in the fifth was not enough for Akron on Saturday as the Zips fell 10-5 to the Western Carolina Catamounts.
Offensively, the Zips were led by Michael Sprockett, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a home run and two RBI. James Strom went 1-for-1 with a home run and an RBI. Max Bowman also contributed for Akron, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding two RBI.
Spencer Atkins (0-5) started and took the loss on the mound for Akron (5-24, ). Yassir Kahook was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 6-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Akron's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Bowman and a two-run home run from Sprockett.
The Zips deficit expanded to 10-4 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the ninth inning. Akron picked up a run on Strom's two-out solo home run, which brought the score to 10-5 in favor of the Catamounts. The ballgame ended with that ninth inning rally falling short.
