Campbell Records 4 RBIs in Akron's 9-1 Victory over Cleveland State

AKRON, Ohio -- Junior Alexis Campbell collected four RBIs to help power the Akron Zips over the Cleveland State Vikings 9-1 on Monday.
Campbell went 2-for-3 with a double in addition to her four RBIs for the Zips. Freshman Sophia Wygast compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and two RBI. Sophomore Meagan Lee also helped out for Akron, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
Sophomore Haley Croyle (5-7) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Akron (13-15, 5-1). The right-hander went 2.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Akron scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Campbell.
The Zips then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the third inning after the Vikings cut it to 3-1. Akron picked up a run on Wygast's leadoff home run off of M. Holzopfel, which brought the score to 4-1 in favor of the Zips.
Akron held Cleveland State without a run before expanding their lead to 8-1 the following inning. The Zips bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Campbell.
Akron held the Vikings scoreless before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. D. Jenkinson crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Zips, bringing the score to 9-1 in favor of Akron. The score remained 9-1 for the rest of the game, as the Zips coasted to the win.

» The Zips power output was led by Wygast, who compiled two extra base hits in the ballgame.
