Zips Sweep Doubleheader Against Northern Illinois

AKRON, Ohio --Sophomore Haley Croyle was dealing on Friday, throwing a shutout to lead the Akron Zips past the Northern Illinois Huskies 1-0. Croyle (4-7) went the distance for Akron (11-15, 3-1), giving up seven hits, walking none and striking out seven.
Akron scored in the bottom of the 11th inning when freshman Sophia Wygast led-off with a single and advanced to third on a double by junior Autumn Bailey. With one out, freshman Lily Sullivan laid down a squeeze but to score freshman Haley Glass, who pinch ran for Wygast, for the win.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game stayed scoreless until the bottom half of the eleventh, when Akron walked it off on an RBI single off the bat of Sullivan.

Junior Alexis Campbell and Lee each collected three hits to help lead the Akron Zips over the Northern Illinois Huskies 4-2.
Freshman Macy Walters (2-3) got the win for Akron (12-15, 4-1). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on seven hits, allowing one walk and striking out five.
Lee's three-hit day led the Zips offensively. Campbell added an RBI to her three-hit performance as well. Wygast also helped out for Akron, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Glass came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
The Zips then held the Huskies scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Campbell's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Akron scored twice, which brought the Zips lead to 3-0.
Northern Illinois narrowed Akron's lead to 3-2 before the Zips stretched the advantage to 4-2 in the fourth inning. The Zips scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Wygast. The score remained 4-2 for the rest of the game, as Akron held on for the win.
