Akron Drops Doubleheader at Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- The Akron Zips fell to Robert Morris in both games of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon by scores of 8-4 and 5-0. Akron falls to 10-15 on the season.
GAME 1 | Robert Morris 8, Akron 4
Offensively, the Zips were led by freshman Delaney Jenkinson, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Freshman Morgan Sizemore put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Freshman Lily Sullivan also helped out for Akron, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Akron got on the board thanks to Sizemore's RBI double with two outs.
The Zips lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 2-1. Akron pushed across a run on Sullivan's one-out RBI double, which brought the score level at 2-2.
Robert Morris busted up the tie and grabbed a 3-2 lead moving into the fifth, when Akron grabbed the advantage at 4-3. Akron recorded two runs, including one on a solo round-tripper off the bat of Jenkinson. The Zips were unable to hold the lead, as Robert Morris scored five times over the remaining two innings to grab the 8-4 win.

» Akron's highest scoring inning was the fifth, when it pushed two runs across.
» Akron pitchers faced 31 Robert Morris hitters in the game, allowing two ground balls and 13 fly balls while striking out three.

Sophomore Meagan Lee led the way offensively for the Zips, going 3-for-4 in the ballgame. Junior Autumn Bailey put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Freshman Lily Sullivan also chipped in, going 1-for-3 for Akron with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Akron managed two chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position. The Zips last got a runner on third in the sixth, when freshman Sydni Hoobler made it 60 feet away from scoring with two outs.
GAME NOTES
» Lee led the Zips, compiling three base knocks in the ballgame.

» The Zips out-hit the Colonials at a 10-4 clip.

The Zips will be back home at Lee R. Jackson Field for another three game series against a MAC opponent, Northern Illinois. Friday March 22 will be a single 7-inning game beginning at 3 p.m. and there will be a doubleheader on Saturday with first pitch of game one scheduled for 1 p.m.
