Akron Drops First Game of The Series to Duke, 6-0

DURHAM, N.C. - The Akron Zips baseball team fell to No. 10/12 Duke in the first game of the series 6-0 on Friday.Â
Jared Schaeffer (0-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Akron (2-6). Josiah Ross went three shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out five out of the pen.
At the plate, the Zips were led by senior Max Bowman, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Akron was held in check by the Blue Devils' pitching staff. The Zips last got a runner on third in the eighth, when Charlie Rhee made it 90 feet away from scoring with one out.
GAME NOTES
» Akron pitchers faced 36 Duke hitters in the game, allowing six ground balls and seven fly balls while striking out nine.
» Bowman led the Zips at the plate, going 1-for-3.
