Akron falls to The Citadel, 9-2

CHARLESTON, S.C. --Junior Fisher Pyatt went 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Akron Zips in a 9-2 loss to The Citadel Bulldogs on Friday.
Pyatt led the way offensively for the Zips, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a walk and an RBI. Freshman Evan Bottone compiled a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a double. Junior Sam Seeker also chipped in, going 2-for-4 for Akron. Senior Anthony Fett came out of the bullpen for four shutout innings, allowing just one hit, two walks and had two strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips put runs on the scoreboard first in the top of the second inning. Akron got an RBI single from Pyatt, scoring Seeker from third base.
The Zips lost the lead they built in the second, but got back on the board in the third trailing 4-1. Bottone came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which tightened the Bulldogs lead to 4-2. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Citadel added five runs to their tally on the way to a 9-2 final.
GAME NOTES
» Akron pitchers faced 40 Citadel hitters in the game, striking out nine. While the defense caught nine fly balls.
» Pyatt led the Zips at the plate, going 1-for-2 with an RBI. Seeker added to the offensive effort going 2-for-4.
