WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Akron Zips ran into No. 1 Wake Forest and saw their two-game winning streak snapped with a 14-3 loss to Demon Deacons on Sunday.

Anthony Fett (0-2) took the loss on the mound for Akron (2-2). Tre Rex was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking one, and striking out two.

At the plate, the Zips saw Ian Pennington drive in two runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Zips got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Evan Bottone came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.

The Zips lost the lead they built in the first but got back on the board in the fifth trailing 8-1. Akron managed to push across two runs in the inning, which tightened the Demon Deacons lead to 8-3. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Wake Forest added six runs to their tally on the way to a 14-3 final.

GAME NOTES

» Akron pitchers faced 40 Wake Forest hitters in the game, allowing three ground balls and nine fly balls while striking out five.

» The Zips drew four walks from Wake Forest pitching.

» Pennington led the Zips at the plate, going 0-for-2 with two RBI.

» Wake Forest was led offensively by junior Seaver King, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.

» Junior Michael Massey led the Demon Deacons pitching staff, throwing three innings of one-run ball.
