AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team is set to resume its indoor campaign traveling to Kent, Ohio to participate in the Jud Logan Memorial Meet hosted by the Golden Flashes on Saturday (Jan. 13).
UP NEXT: Akron is in a 12-team field at the Jud Logan Memorial Meet, one that features the Zips, Ashland, Buffalo, Cleveland State, Duquesne, Edinboro, Kent State, Malone, Pittsburgh-Johnstown, Slippery Rock, Tiffin and Youngstown State.
The 30-event meet will commence with the men's high jump and long jump and women's high jump at 9 a.m. before the meet concludes with the men's 4x400 relay at approximately 5:45 p.m.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron track and field teams garnered recognition for their efforts during the 2023 outdoor season as the Zips rated in the Event Squad rankings released on May 15, 2023, as part of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index.
Akron ranked fifth nationally in the men's hammer, 20th in the men's pole vault and 30th in the men's shot put.
ZIPS RANK AMONG NATION'S BEST IN 2024 TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron has 12 student-athletes ranked in the top-50 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) for the 2024 indoor campaign, including, redshirt junior Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio), who is 14th in the nation in the men's pole vault (17-0.75/5.20m).
Also rated among the top-50 is freshman AJ Jordan (Columbus, Ohio) (17th in men's 200 meters – 21.64), sophomore Vanessa Horn (Ludwigsfelde, Germany) (23rd in women's 400 meters – 56.67), freshman Andrew Styles (Freeport, Bahamas) (31st in men's 200 meters – 21.79), junior Joy Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) (32nd in women's 200 meters – 24.79), senior Jameel Williamson (Columbus, Ohio) (34th in men's 400 meters – 48.96), redshirt senior Robert Artrip (Independence, Ohio) (41st in men's pole vault – 16-0.75/4.90m), redshirt senior Jabari Neal-Jackson (Cincinnati, Ohio) (47th in men's weight throw – 62-1.25/18.93m) as well as the men's 4x400 relay of sophomores Caden Dawson (Chardon, Ohio) and Tysean Baronette (Middleton, Del.), Jordan and Styles (41st – 3:19.15) and women's 4x400 relay of Horn, sophomore Jade Celestine (Ajax, Ontario), junior Adaeze Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) and Joy Nowkike (42nd – 3:52.04).
GARRETSON NAMED ELITE 90 WINNER: Hunter Garretson was the recipient of the Elite 90 award for the 2023 NCAA Division Men's Track and Field Indoor Championship.
Garretson, majoring in mathematics, boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA was presented with the award during the presentation. He became the second Zip to earn the distinguished honor joining Tyler Sanda, who won the award as a member of the Akron men's soccer team in 2015.
GARRETSON GARNERS ALL-AMERICA ACCOLADES: Hunter Garretson garnered First-Team All-America accolades on the strength of a second-place showing (18-8.25/5.70m) at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Texas on June 7. William Gross garnered Second-Team All-America honors placing 16th in the men's hammer (221-3/67.45m), while senior Charles Sanders (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore Brian Masai (Kitale, Kenya) were named Honorable Mention All-America recipients in the men's 400 meters and 5,000 meters, respectively.
CRACKING THE ALL-TIME TOP-FIVE PERFORMANCES: The Zips posted a trio of school records on the campaign, including Brian Masai in the men's 5,000 and 10,000 meters and redshirt junior Jimmy Harkelroad (Huron, Ohio) as part of nine overall top-five performances in program history to the record book during the 2023 outdoor campaign.
