Zips Fall 3-0 to Valparaiso

CHARLESTON, IL --The Akron volleyball team fell to the Valparaiso Beacons 3-0 (21-25, 19-25, 21-25) Friday at Lantz Arena.
The non-conference loss moved Akron to 0-1 on the season.
The Zips were led by a double-double from Faith Johnson, who registered 12 kills and 15 digs on the day. Ellen Kinnaird also added nine kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Vanessa Del Real chipped in for with 10 digs to go with four blocks from Kinnaird.
Game Notes

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips found themselves in an early hole, losing the first set 25-21. Akron trailed by as many as six points as Valparaiso grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 in a set that was knotted up five times before the Beacons took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | A 25-19 set-two loss put Akron in a 2-0 deficit in the match. The Zips dropped the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before dropping the set.
SET 3 | Akron couldn't prolong the match and lost in set number three. The Zips fell behind on the first point and never clawed back into the lead before losing the set 25-21.
