Zips Drop 3-2 Match to ULM

CHARLESTON, IL --The Akron volleyball team fell in five sets (14-25, 25-22, 25-17, 16-25, 15-17) to the UL Monroe Warhawks Friday at Lantz Arena.
The non-conference loss dropped Akron to 0-2 on the season.
The Zips were led by a double-double from Faith Johnson, who registered 17 kills and 11 digs on the day. Lauren Baker also added 10 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Vanessa Del Real chipped in for with 25 digs to go with five blocks from Karleighana Jones.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips found themselves in an early hole, dropping a tough first set 25-14. Akron trailed by as many as 12 points as UL Monroe never gave up the lead in a set that was notted up zero times before the Warhawks took control.
SET 2 | Akron rallied from a first-set loss to take the second set 25-22, tying the match at one set apiece. The Zips took control of the set lead early on at 3-2 and never trailed. Akron led by as many as five points at 24-19 before closing out the set, collecting 15 kills along the way. The Akron offense also got a boost from five aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Akron won again in the third set to make it a 2-1 match. The Zips took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to earn a 25-17 victory. Akron opened up as much as a nine point lead at 16-7 before closing out the set. Akron's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five UL Monroe attacks in the stanza.
SET 4 | Akron couldn't keep the win streak going, as the Warhawks forced a fifth set with a 25-16 fourth-set win. The Zips fell behind on the first point and never clawed back into the lead before falling in the set.
SET 5 | Akron opened a lead of two sets to one before losing the final two sets, including a 17-15 loss in the fifth set. The Zips fell in a back-and-forth set five, losing in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied eight times. Neither team led by more than three points in the set.
