Zips Drop 3-1 Match to Eastern Illinois

CHARLESTON, IL --The Akron volleyball team fell Saturday as the Eastern Illinois Panthers posted a 3-1 (25-27, 8-25, 25-22, 12-25) win on the road at the Lantz Arena.
The non-conference loss moved Akron to 0-3 at the Panther Invitational as Vanessa Del Real was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Faith Johnson finished with 10 kills on the day to lead the Zips attack. got 17 digs from Del Real along with five blocks from Karleighana Jones to lead them defensively.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips fell in a back-and-forth first set, losing 27-25 in a game that featured 11 lead changes and was tied 18 times. Neither team led by more than two points in the match.
SET 2 | A 25-8 second-set loss put Akron in a 2-0 deficit in the match. The Zips lost the first point and never clawed back into the lead before dropping the set.
SET 3 | After falling in the opening two sets, Akron rallied to grab the third set and make it a 2-1 match. The Zips took control of the set early when the score was 5-4 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-22. Akron led by as many as six points at 12-6 before finishing off the stanza.
SET 4 | Akron couldn't keep the momentum and fell in set four 25-12 to drop the match. The Zips dropped the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before losing the set.
