OXFORD, Ohio – The Akron Zips registered seven-runs in the second inning en route to a 10-2 win over the Miami RedHawks at McKie Field at Hayden Park on Sunday.
Akron (18-29, 10-17 MAC) scattered eight hits as sophomore OF Ian Pennington (Springboro, Ohio) posted a 3-of-5 performance from the plate to lead the Zips. Pennington distributed a triple with two runs scored and an RBI.
Sophomore OF Sam Seeker (Norton, Ohio) also belted a triple in a 2-of-5 effort with two RBI and one run scored. Graduate 3B Nick Arrivo (Ann Arbor, Mich.) followed with a 2-of-3 performance with two walks, two RBI and two runs scored. Rounding out the Zips offense was sophomore C Andrew Horvath (Aurora, Ohio) with a 1-of-3 ledger and a run scored.
Freshman starting pitcher Joe Roth (Austintown, Ohio) hurled 7.0 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Junior relief pitcher Yassir Kahook (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) threw two no-hit, no-run innings to close the game.
