Zips Fall to Rival at Canal Park

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips battled crosstown rival Kent State in a non-conference game at Canal Park in downtown Akron as the Zips fell 7-2 on Tuesday night.
Akron scattered five hits around Canal Park as graduate 3B Nick Arrivo (Ann Arbor, Mich.) led the way. Arrivo went 2-of-3 with a walk and a run scored, while juniors IF Breydan Cavey (Medina, Ohio) and OF Jack Firestone (Zionsville, Ind.) registered doubles. Cavey recorded the Zips lone RBI, plating Arrivo. Senior SS Kaito Hara (Houston, Texas) stole a pair of bases, including one for a run and went 1-of-2 with a walk. Sophomore C Andrew Horvath also recorded a base hit.
Kent State scored an unearned run in the second inning and followed with a three-run third inning effort to take an early 4-0 advantage. In the bottom half of the third, Hara delivered the Zips first base hit and stole home for Akron's first run to make it 4-1. Akron cut the lead in half as Arrivo singled and Cavey launched a double to left center field, driving Arrivo across the plate. The Flashes increased the lead to 5-2 in the sixth inning, and made 7-2 by the end of the eighth.
